We are pleased to welcome U.S. Army SGT (Ret) Adam Keys as this years featured guest speaker!

On July 14, 2010, six months into his tour in Afghanistan, U.S. Army SGT Adam Keys along with four other Army Airborne Soldiers' armored vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. The attack left Adam critically injured and the other four soldiers fatally wounded. As a result of the explosion Adam had broken his jaw, left shoulder, humerus and ankles, as well as sustained a severe concussion. The bomb had left his limbs intact, but a subsequent massive infection had nearly killed him and required the amputation of his left arm, an ankle and one leg above the knee. Eventually, he would lose the other knee, too. He endured over 130 surgeries and countless hours of physical therapy while recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center - spending a total of 5 years recovering at the facility - the longest to date of any wounded warrior. His mother, Julie Keys, quit her job to devote herself full time to her son’s care and was at his side for the entire recovery process. Earning her the title of one of the the "Mighty Moms of Walter Reed." Their story plus 9 other mother/children duos are featured in a new book called Unbreakable Bonds,The Mighty Moms and Wounded Warriors of Walter Reed Adam medically retired on July 27, 2015. But nothing keeps Adam down for long! Adam is now doing motivational speaking as well as remains active by competing in various handcycle and fitness events and has even continued to skydive. Adam maintains that he's not so much positive as he is stubborn. "The minute I am told I can't do something, I want to prove that I can," he says. Operation Ward 57 is thrilled to host both Adam and his mother Julie at our 6th Annual Rock & Rally For The Troops on Aug 6, 2016 in Tacoma, WA. Adam Collage
